The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) installed Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming as its ninth Vice-Chancellor and President today (20 May). Professor John Chai Yat-chiu, Chairman of the CUHK Council, presided over the ceremony. Over 700 members of CUHK staff, students, alumni, distinguished guests attended the event, including representatives from academic institutions across mainland China and overseas, to witness this significant moment.

During the ceremony, Professor Lo received the Ordinance of CUHK and the Seal of the Vice-Chancellorship from Professor Chai. In his installation address, Professor Lo said: “Born and raised in Hong Kong, I have worked at CUHK for 28 years. This is my home away from home, where I am continuously inspired by a community of outstanding scholars, innovators and students.”

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to former Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of CUHK for laying a robust foundation that has enabled the University to grow and achieve remarkable accomplishments. He said: “Since its establishment 62 years ago, CUHK has relentlessly advanced the frontiers of knowledge, striving for breakthroughs and contributing to society. As hubs of knowledge and cradles of talent, universities are more compelled than ever to stay focused, demonstrate resilience, and adapt to navigate evolving challenges. Upholding its mission of combining tradition with modernity and bringing together China and the West, CUHK remains committed to its cherished traditions while embracing local and global challenges. I will continue to do my utmost to serve this forward-looking institution in its pursuit of excellence.”

Professor Lo also encouraged the younger generation to pursue their dreams with courage, move forward with resolve, and strive for their aspirations with optimism and determination.
