The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) today (4 March) has received a generous donation of 8,000 COVID-19 rapid antigen tests from Mr Hendrick Sin, Co-founder and Vice Chairman of CMGE Technology Group Limited, Chairman of China Prosperity Capital, and President of the Internet Professional Association in Hong Kong and Ms Eman Liu, a CUHK alumna and Executive Director and CEO of Edvantage Group Holdings Limited. The tests will be distributed to frontline staff providing essential campus services, as well as students which will be essential in protecting the health of the university community and ensuring the continuity of campus operations.

Speaking at a virtual meeting to acknowledge the donation, Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, said, “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Sin and Ms Liu for their generous donation. The test kits they procured and donated to CUHK members will cater for our imminent needs at a time when supplies and manpower resources are scarce. Their donation also highlights that the enduring support of alumni is vital to the University. Meanwhile, I also want to express my sincere thanks to all staff, especially frontline workers who continue to provide cleaning, security, campus and hostel management services during this critical phase of the pandemic. The current infection wave has seen staff and students test positive for COVID-19. Frontline staff have worked tirelessly to conduct deep cleaning and ensure the safety of our community. This work has been conducted against the backdrop of rising infections across the city and a manpower shortage across our staff. Despite the odds, our staff continue to work as a professional and united team bound by a commitment to keep the campus running. I really appreciate their effort and hard work.”

Mr Hendrick Sin, Co-founder and Vice Chairman of CMGE Technology Group Limited (0302.HK), Chairman of China Prosperity Capital, and the President of the internet Professional Association in Hong Kong said, “I can imagine how difficult it is to maintain the normal operations of the University amid the severe pandemic situation. We are facing at the same time a surge of confirmed COVID cases and a lack of test kits in Hong Kong. I hope these test kits can help CUHK maintain its normal operations.”

Ms Eman Liu, the Executive Director and CEO of Edvantage Group Holdings Limited (0382.HK) stated, “Hong Kong is now facing a dire pandemic situation. The University has a huge demand for anti-pandemic supplies, especially as quite a number of staff and students still stay on campus. I care deeply about my alma mater and hope this donation can cater for the University’s imminent needs.”

The CMGE Technology Group Limited (0302.HK) and Edvantage Group Holdings Limited (0382.HK) are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Both companies attach great importance to social responsibility, and have received various environmental, social and governance awards.

The University has been closely monitoring the unfolding Omicron outbreak in Hong Kong. New anti-epidemic measures have been implemented and are reviewed regularly to safeguard the health and wellbeing of staff and students. These measures include moving all learning and teaching online, strongly encouraging people to work from home where possible, and highly recommending the use of rapid antigen testing before returning to campus. The University has additionally aligned its response with the government’s new “Vaccine Pass” launched on 24 February.
