The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School announced today an impressive undergraduate student intake comprising more than 750 local and international students this year. Many of them achieved high scores in public examinations and excel in a wide range of non-academic areas such as sports, arts, community services and more.

Among the nine JUPAS participating institutions, CUHK Business School has two out of the nine most competitive programmes/streams based on median admission scores of students’ best five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination. These programmes/streams include Global Business Studies (GBS), Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science (QFRM). Four of CUHK Business School’s undergraduate programmes – namely GBS, QFRM, Quantitative Finance (QFIN) and Bachelor of Business Administration (Integrated BBA Programme) and Juris Doctor (BBA-JD) Double Degree Programme – admitted elite students with a score of 33 or above in their best five subjects in HKDSE this year. In particular, GBS admitted a JUPAS high scorer who achieved Level 5** in six subjects in the examination.

The School has admitted many high-calibre local and international students through various channels. Some of the incoming students include:

Shirley Tsz-ching Lau of Sacred Heart Canossian College, one of the top candidates at CUHK who attained Level 5** in six subjects in HKDSE, gained acceptance to the GBS programme. Also admitted to the GBS programme are Jojo Hau-yin Lai and Karine Hoi-ling Man, both from St. Paul’s Convent School, were top scorers in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level with A* in all five subjects. The freshmen were impressed by GBS’ unique international cohort. By immersing themselves into diverse cultures, they are confident that they can gain international exposure, develop a global perspective and build a strong network. Jojo has a start-up dream and believes the strong support provided by CUHK and the programme can help her nurture an entrepreneurial mindset and ultimately turn her ideas into reality. Both Shirley and Karine are passionate about community services. For example, Shirley designed and executed a hygiene education project for Cambodian females with her schoolmates in 2019 and won the 1st place in the Zonta International Emma L. Conlon Service Awards. They believe the business knowledge they will gain from the programme enables them to continue creating impact to the society. Enrolled in the QFRM programme, Angus Chun-hin Cheung is a high-achieving student from the Chinese Foundation Secondary School who attained Level 5** in five subjects in HKDSE. He is a mathematics enthusiast who have received awards in numerous regional and national mathematics and science competitions, including the World Class Test (Mathematics), the Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad, and the Hong Kong Physics Olympiad.

CUHK Business School has been contributing to building a culturally diverse learning environment for its students. The School welcomes 130 outstanding international freshmen from 19 countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. Damira Aktay and Shynasyl Amanzholov from Kazakhstan were admitted to the Integrated BBA (IBBA) programme through the Belt and Road Scholarship offered by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
