Meet with Ox-related Artworks in 2021

Restrictions on travelling during the pandemic are not a hindrance to people around the world who want to explore art and culture. The Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has collaborated with the global platform Google Arts & Culture to make its exhibitions and highlighted collections available for everyone online. Over 270 artworks and three themed stories “Celebrating the Year of the Ox”, “Artistic Confluence in Guangdong from Ming to Mid-Qing China” and “Time Travel‧Hong Kong” have been launched. The Art Museum, CUHK and Google share the same mission to promote art and culture through cutting-edge technology. With high quality images, users can enjoy details of the artworks anytime, anywhere.

Time Travel to 1940s­-1970s Hong Kong

“Time Travel • Hong Kong” showcases paintings and photographs depicting Hong Kong from the 1940s to the 1970s, including Yip Yan-chuen’s “Pearl of the Orient”, Wu Meihe’s “Sung Wong Toi”, along with a collection of coloured photographs from the 1950s, enabling users to revisit the charm of old Hong Kong and learn more about its history.

Discover Guangdong Cultural Treasures

The “Artistic Confluence in Guangdong from Ming to Mid-Qing China” is a journey of retrospection and reconstruction from the depths of still waters to the breadth of rivers. The exhibition showcases artworks by Guangdong cultural elites including “Poem of the Terrace for Viewing the Book of Changes for Xue Yingqi in Running-cursive Script” by Huang Zuo, and “After Guo Xi’s Travelers in Autumn Mountains” by renowned poet Li Minhuai.

Meet with Ox-related Artworks in 2021

2021 is the Year of the Ox according to the Chinese zodiac. Members of the public may appreciate the ox via the “Celebrating the Year of the Ox” exhibition, which features ox-related artworks such as “The Buffalo Ride” by Hong Kong’s renowned illustrator Lo Koon-chiu, “Two Water Buffaloes” by Gao Qifeng, founder of the Lingnan School style in the early Qing dynasty, and the dish with overglaze enamelled decoration of Laozi mounted on a buffalo from Jingdezhen in the late Ming dynasty.

Apart from the Google Art Project, the Art Museum offers a kaleidoscopic view of Chinese arts and culture through a variety of online learning resources and activities on its website and social media platforms. About the Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Founded in 1971, the Art Museum, CUHK serves the University community and the public in Hong Kong by collecting, preserving, researching and exhibiting a wide range of artifacts, illuminating the rich arts, humanities, and cultural heritage of ancient and pre-modern China.
