CUHK ranks 32nd in QS World University Rankings 2026
Its best performance ever
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has reached a significant milestone by securing the 32nd spot in the QS World University Rankings 2026. This impressive four-place leap from last year’s ranking marks CUHK’s best performance in the league table since its inception in 2010.
The 2026 edition features over 1,500 universities from around the world. CUHK’s outstanding performance places it nearly among the top 2%, reaffirming its position as a global leader in higher education. QS analysed institutional performance across nine critical indicators: academic reputation, international faculty, citations per faculty, employment outcomes, sustainability, international students, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio and international research network.
CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming said: “This year’s remarkable ranking success powerfully underscores CUHK’s robust academic and research achievements, as well as our leadership among the world’s elite universities. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated faculty members, staff and students, whose passion and excellence have propelled CUHK to shine brightly on the global stage. CUHK will continue to strive for excellence in academic and interdisciplinary research while strengthening collaborations with mainland and global institutions to make greater contributions to the community.”
CUHK recorded significant improvements in its scores for “academic reputation”, “employer reputation” and “faculty-student ratio”. It also received a perfect score of 100 for its “international faculty ratio” once again. These results demonstrate the University’s commitment to recruiting international talents and providing students with a comprehensive, high-quality learning experience.
In addition, CUHK performed exceptionally well in “citations per faculty”, with a score of 95. It recorded 241.2 normalised citations per faculty member, compared to a global median of 52. CUHK’s performance across all other indicators also exceeded the global median for universities worldwide.
