CUHK and SSCI sign MoU to drive innovation and technology transformation
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd. (SSCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently to establish a strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to accelerate technology transfer, promote fund cluster cooperation and foster talent exchange between academia and industry.
The MoU was signed by Professor Allen Chan Kwan-chee, CUHK’s Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer), and Ms Lu Wen, Vice-president of SSCI. The signing ceremony was witnessed Professor Sham Mai-har, CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), and Dr Dai Minmin, President of SSCI.
Professor Sham expressed that CUHK is enthusiastic about the partnership with SSCI, hoping it will further strengthen industry-academia collaboration, accelerate the commercialisation of research, and nurture future talent. She noted that this collaboration underscores CUHK’s commitment to innovation and knowledge transfer, and will contribute to the development of strategic industries. She believed closer ties between Hong Kong and Shanghai will inject momentum into the innovation ecosystem.
Dr Dai stated that SSCI has consistently adhered to its strategic positioning of “fund management + innovation incubation”. Looking ahead, they will further deepen their collaboration with CUHK in areas such as research commercialisation, talent cultivation and the construction of innovation platforms. Together, they aim to build a more influential ecosystem for collaborative innovation among industry, academia, and research. They will also leverage the CUHK Shanghai Centre to facilitate in-depth cooperation, supporting the development of new strategic industries that promote regional economic growth and strategic upgrading.
SSCI has been supporting CUHK’s innovation development. It has approached five CUHK spin-offs to evaluate their technological innovations and business strategies to help them advance to the next stage of development. They span a broad spectrum of technologies, including therapeutics, diagnostics, biomedical engineering, deep tech and AI. Under the MoU, both parties will further strengthen their collaboration, leveraging CUHK’s research excellence and educational resources, alongside SSCI’s expertise in industrial investment and platform development, to jointly promote innovation initiatives.
Joint initiatives will include innovation forums, technology roadshows and entrepreneurship boot camps, with a focus on key sectors such as integrated circuits, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, new energy and new materials. In addition to supporting early-stage tech investment and industrial cluster development, the collaboration will create new opportunities for CUHK students and researchers through internships, enterprise visits and joint R&D projects. It will establish platforms for high-level communication and regular consultation to ensure effective coordination and implementation of strategic initiatives. The MoU marks a significant step in strengthening Hong Kong-Shanghai cooperation, building a dynamic, innovation-driven ecosystem that bridges academia and industry.
