2018 CUHK Alumni Homecoming Day was successfully held last Saturday (24 November) at the campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). This annual flagship alumni event attracted the participation of over 5,200 alumni, their families and friends.

In celebration of the 55th anniversary of the University, the event was themed ‘Health’ and ‘Vitality’ and introduced a new initiative – ‘Health Zone’. With the aim of promoting general advice related to physical and mental health, the area featured a series of health talks hosted by alumni and staff, whose topics ranged from Western medicine, Chinese medicine, mental health and exercise health; as well as the arrangement of health check-ups and demo sessions of exercise supplies.

In his welcome speech at the event’s opening ceremony, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Benjamin Wah warmly welcomed the participants on their return to their alma mater and their participation in this annual occasion to witness the latest development of the University. He expressed particularly his gratitude to this year’s Anniversary Class Fundraising Committee for their contribution to helping raise a sum of HK$1 million for ‘CUHK Alumni Torch Fund’ (The Fund). Adding this amount, the Fund, which aims at supporting young alumni in their entrepreneurial efforts and career development, has now accumulated over HK$6.2 million since its establishment in 2014.

CUHK Alumni Homecoming is the largest scale alumni reunion of the year. All alumni are welcome to return to their alma mater with their families and friends on that day for participation in various programmes and to witness the University’s latest development. For this year, in addition to the ‘Health Zone’, it included activities such as a grand carnival, handicraft market, thematic visits, and college / graduate school dinners.

About CUHK Alumni Torch Fund

The Fund was initiated by a group of devoted alumni from the anniversary classes in 2014. It was founded with the objectives of helping CUHK alumni, in particular the young ones, by strengthening their competitive advantages and exposure to entrepreneur opportunities, and encouraging CUHK alumni in developing their expertise and achieving excellence in professional and academic fields. It also aims to help the development and enhance the reputation of the University in the long run. Apart from arranging the annual ‘CUHK Entrepreneur Day’ to showcase entrepreneurship projects by CUHK alumni and students, the Fund has also organized a career expo, specifically designed for young alumni on campus, featuring career talks on diverse industries, consultation sessions and recruitment booths.
