From today onwards, five Partner State Key Laboratories of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will be renamed as State Key Laboratories, enabling them with more flexibility to collaborate with different Mainland research and development institutions. The Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Wang Zhigang, presented the State Key Laboratories with plaques. 

They are:
State Key Laboratory of Translational Oncology
State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology
State Key Laboratory of Research on Bioactivities and Clinical Applications of Medicinal Plants
State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry (Partnership with The University of Hong Kong)
State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease 

Also, the SenseTime Group Limited which was founded in 2014 by Professor Tang Xiaoou, Outstanding Fellow of the Faculty of Engineering, CUHK, is entrusted by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to establish the “National Open Innovation Platform for Next Generation Artificial Intelligence on Intelligent Vision”, of similar institutes, the first to be so in Hong Kong. The University is immensely delighted and encouraged by this honour. 

Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, said, “CUHK is privileged to receive the support and recognition by MOST. As a world-class, comprehensive research university, CUHK is well recognized for its cutting-edge, innovative research. The CUHK State Key Laboratories are all distinguished by their scholarly and pioneering investigations. As one of the world’s leading institutes in Artificial Intelligence research and development, we are delighted that home-grown technology enterprise SenseTime Group Limited, founded by Professor Tang Xiaoou of CUHK, is entrusted by MOST. We will continue to collaborate closely with Mainland research institutes to contribute to the national advancement of education, scientific research and knowledge transfer.”
