The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has received five Triple Gold Award at the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2018 in the Website Stream and the Mobile Application Stream. The awards go to the following CUHK websites and mobile applications: CUHK website (www.cuhk.edu.hk), Communications and Public Relations Office website (www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk), CUTV website (www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk/cutv), University Gallery website (www.cuhk.edu.hk/ugallery) and CUHK Mobile app (Android and iOS versions).

The award presentation ceremony was held at the Headquarters of the Hong Kong Red Cross today (26 June) and was well attended by representatives from award winning enterprises, NGOs, educational institutions and public-sector organisations. In 2018, the recognition scheme was organised by Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC), co-organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) while the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) serves as the independent advisor to encourage web accessibility among organisations in various industries and sectors, and to showcase corporations that have demonstrated outstanding efforts in facilitating access to their websites and mobile applications.

The Triple Gold Award is the highest accolade in the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme. It is presented to organisations whose websites and mobile applications have won the Gold Award for three consecutive years. A Gold Award is given to websites which have fulfilled 24 judging criteria and to mobile applications which have fulfilled 18 criteria. These criteria include meaningfully sequenced and structured contents, clear headings and informative links, and high compatibility with assistive technologies to facilitate smooth navigation. The colour contrast of text and images, the font size options and the use of sign language should address the need of all users, including people with disabilities and seniors.
