Seven CUHK scholars named RGC Senior Research Fellows or Research Fellows
Seven scholars from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have received awards from the Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS) and Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) 2025/26, in recognition of their distinguished research achievements. CUHK will receive a fellowship grant of about HK$8.2 million per SRFS award and HK$5.5 million per RFS award to cover salary costs for relief teachers and support for research projects over a period of 60 months.
CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sham Mai-har said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our scholars for receiving such an honour. This accolade not only recognises their outstanding research contributions but also demonstrates the breadth and depth of the University’s research excellence spanning both scientific and humanities disciplines. We look forward to our scholars continuing to make groundbreaking discoveries in their respective fields and transformative contributions to the advancement of human knowledge.”
Three CUHK scholars were conferred the title “RGC Senior Research Fellow”: Professor Chen Shih-Chi, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering; Professor Pang Laikwan, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Cultural and Religious Studies; and Professor Xing Guoliang, Professor in the Department of Information Engineering. The three professor’s research projects are respectively: “Closed-loop High-throughput Super-resolution Two-photon Lithography”, “An Interdisciplinary Approach to Explore the Rise of the Modern Chinese Subject in Late Qing China”, and “Multi-modal Perception Fusion and Interaction for Infrastructure-assisted Driving Systems”.
Four CUHK scholars were conferred the title “RGC Research Fellow”: Professor Martin Li Man-chun, Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics; Professor Maggie Wang Haitian, Associate Professor in the The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care; Professor Philip Zhang Renyu, Associate Professor in the Department of Decisions, Operations and Technology; and Professor Zhou Renjie, Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The four professor’s research projects are respectively: “Minimal Surfaces in Geometry, Phase Transition and General Relativity”, “Integrated Computational Platform for Antigen Design of Therapeutic Vaccines for HPV-mediated Cervical Cancer”, “Al-powered Data-driven Decision Making in Business”, and “High-sensitivity Morpho-molecular Microscopy for High-throughput Imaging Applications”.
