CUHK admits 53 students through School Nominations Direct Admission Scheme

24 Jun 2022

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), through the School Nomination Direct Admission Scheme (SNDAS) implemented by the Education Bureau, will admit 53 students in the 2022/23 academic year to 24 of the participating undergraduate programmes.

The scheme was introduced by the Education Bureau (EDB) as a pilot in the 2022/23 academic year with the aim of recognising the talent of local secondary students that cannot be fully assessed by the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination, giving them the opportunity to be considered for direct admission to local universities based on their exceptional talent and interest in specific disciplines or areas. The scheme has been well received by the community, and EDB received a total of 768 nominations from 403 secondary schools for the inaugural cohort. Among these, 292 students were nominated to CUHK, and about 20% were offered admission.

Professor Andy Wong, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, CUHK, said, “CUHK has always supported the provision of different admission channels for students with diverse talents, rather than just based on their public examination results. Through SNDAS, the University is delighted to have admitted a group of students who have demonstrated their talent and outstanding achievements in a wide range of areas, including sports, music, arts and culture, leadership, creativity and STEM, breathing new life into the campus.”

Through SNDAS 2022/23, the programme with the largest number of students admitted is Science, with 12; followed by Medicine (MBChB) and Enrichment Mathematics, with four each.
