The Chinese University of Hong Kong Shanghai Centre 2025 Launch Meeting
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held its Shanghai Centre Launch meeting on 27 May 2025. The event brought together representatives from government, academia and business community to witness CUHK’s latest strides in fostering Hong Kong-Shanghai collaboration in technological innovation and knowledge transfer.
CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Provost Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin and Associate Vice-President Professor Hector Sun-on Chan attended the activities. Representatives from the Shanghai Municipal and Yangpu District governments were also present, comprising Mr Pan Xiaogang, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Talent Work Bureau, Mr Zhou Haiying, Mayor of Yangpu District, and Mr Liu Jinyuan, Deputy Mayor of Yangpu District, accompanied by participating guests from CUHK partner universities in Shanghai, underscoring the strong ties between Hong Kong and Shanghai in higher education and innovation.
A highlight of the event was the launch ceremony of the Joint Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme between CUHK and the Shanghai Municipal Talent Work Bureau. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the two parties’ collaboration on high-level talent nurturing and innovation. The programme will focus on cutting-edge fields including integrated circuits, biomedical sciences, artificial intelligence, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. It will support postdoctoral researchers conducting research at CUHK, empowering them to achieve breakthroughs in their fields.
The meeting featured a ceremony for the second batch of six knowledge transfer projects that have officially begun at CUHK’s Innoport@Shanghai, a technology incubation hub in the city. Participation in these projects highlights CUHK’s proactive efforts to promote the transformation of research outcomes and foster deep integration among industry, academia and research. Including the first batch of five projects that launched in 2024, a total of 11 projects have now been established at CUHK InnoPort@Shanghai. It will continue to provide one-stop support services for the transformation and commercialisation of research achievements in the city.
Since it was established in 2023, the CUHK Shanghai Centre has been committed to promoting deep collaboration between Hong Kong and Shanghai in higher education, scientific research and innovation, and talent development. It provides training for innovative and entrepreneurial talent, facilitates exchange among entrepreneurs, scholars and students from both cities, and supports interdisciplinary research collaboration among researchers and teams. The Centre also serves as an effective platform for synergy among government, universities and enterprises, contributing to the high-quality development of the nation, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
