Biography of Speaker:

 

Dr. Lauren Tilton is the E. Claiborne Robins Professor of Liberal Arts and Digital Humanities in the Department of Rhetoric & Communication Studies. Her research focuses on analyzing, developing, and applying digital and computational methods to the study of 20th and 21st century documentary expression and visual culture. Tilton’s first book, Humanities Data in R: Exploring Networks, Geospatial Data, Images, and Texts (2015, second edition forthcoming), built off work applying digital humanities to the study of photography for the digital, public humanities project, Photogrammar (photogrammar.org), which she directs. 

 

Dr. Andrew Piper is Professor and William Dawson Scholar in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University. He directs .txtLAB, a digital humanities laboratory at McGill, and is editor of the new web-based, open-access journal, CA: Journal of Cultural Analytics. His work focuses on applying the tools and techniques of data science to the study of literature and culture, with a particular emphasis on questions of cultural capital, institutional prestige, and intellectual diversity. He has on-going projects that address the inequalities of cultureacademic publishing and power, and the history of the visual page. His research is grounded in an understanding of the long history of reading technologies and how they have shaped human cultures.

Event Details:

The 2026 Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities Conference will be held from 23 to 25 January 2026 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Shatin campus. The conference is organised by the Research Centre for the Human Values, the Research Institute for the Humanities, and the University Library of CUHK, with sponsorship from the Philomathia Foundation. This year’s theme is “Distant Reading, Viewing, Perceiving in the Age of AI.” English paper abstracts (500–1000 words) are now being invited.

Students and scholars from Hong Kong and beyond are welcome to register and submit their abstracts by 31 August 2025 via https://coms.app/2026-hkadh.
