Traditional ink art is far from dull. Under a child’s playful brush, simple dots, lines, and washes bloom into darting fish, vibrant blossoms, and quiet cottages. Even a frayed brush can sweep across the paper to breathe life into majestic, flowing landscapes.

Dr. Kan Tai-keung, a master of contemporary ink art and design, seamlessly blends Eastern aesthetics with Western design principles. In recent years, he has channelled the core philosophy inherited from Lui Shou-kwan, pioneer of Hong Kong’s “New Ink Movement”—learning from tradition, nature, and one’s inner self. Utilising this creed as a wellspring of inspiration, Dr. Kan guides his granddaughter, Xenia Yuen, alongside other budding young artists, to discover everyday wonder and express themselves with bold, boundless imagination.

Under the theme “Ink Echoes: A Shared Path with Kan Tai-keung and Students,” this joint exhibition highlights Dr. Kan’s masterful creations alongside the standout ink works of his pupils. Together, the collection beautifully captures the spirit of mutual growth, shared learning, and artistic mentorship, celebrating a dynamic bridge between generations in the evolving world of ink art.

The theme of this exhibition resonates deeply with Chung Chi College’s educational mission and commitment to whole-person development, where holistic education and the value of learning through teacher-student companionship have long been cherished. In celebration of Chung Chi College’s 75^th Anniversary, the College is honoured to invite Dr. Kan and his students to present their works. Through this exhibition, the enduring spirit of generational continuity is brought to the fore, while aspirations for the future are reflected. Through art, the exhibition seeks to inspire creativity and cultivate humanistic values.
