The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has received 30 awards at the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2024-2025, including eleven Triple Gold Awards, twelve Gold Awards, three Silver Awards and four Elderly-friendly Awards.

The 2024-2025 award presentation ceremony was held today (19 May). Representatives from award winning departments from the University attended the ceremony to receive the awards.

The recognition scheme was organised by Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC), co-organised by the Digital Policy Office with the Equal Opportunities Commission serving as the independent advisor, to encourage web accessibility among organisations in various industries and sectors, to contribute to building a caring and inclusive society and to showcase corporations that have demonstrated outstanding efforts in facilitating access to their websites and mobile applications.

Triple Gold Award is to recognise organizations who attained Gold Award for 3 consecutive scheme years. To attain Gold Award, 27 judging criteria for website and 23 judging criteria for mobile application should be met to provide better accessibility features, which include meaningfully sequenced and structured contents, clear headings and informative links, and high compatibility with assistive technologies to facilitate smooth navigation. The colour contrast of text and images, the font size options and the use of sign language should address the need of all users including people with disabilities and seniors. All criteria are tested by qualified system and practical operation.
