{"id":48904,"date":"2014-10-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-30T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/press\/cuhk-releases-survey-findings-on-views-on-hong-kongs-core-values\/"},"modified":"2014-10-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-30T00:00:00","slug":"cuhk-releases-survey-findings-on-views-on-hong-kongs-core-values","status":"publish","type":"press","link":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/press\/cuhk-releases-survey-findings-on-views-on-hong-kongs-core-values\/","title":{"rendered":"CUHK Releases Survey Findings on Views on Hong Kong\u2019s Core Values"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","tags":[],"class_list":["post-48904","press","type-press","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":{"title_alt":"","sub_title_alt":"","press_date":"20141030","keep":false,"details":"<p>A telephone survey was conducted from 21 to 23 October 2014 by Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to gauge public views on Hong Kong&rsquo;s core values.&nbsp; 804 respondents aged 18 or above were successfully interviewed, with a response rate of 45.3%.&nbsp; The sampling error is + or &ndash;3.46% at a confidence level of 95%.&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>Major findings are summarized as follows:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p><p>In the survey, the respondents were asked to rate their level of agreement towards 11 randomly presented HK&rsquo;s core values, including (1) freedom, (2) rule of law, (3) democracy, (4) just and corruption-free, (5) diversity and tolerance, (6) family, (7) social stability, (8) peace and benevolence, (9) level playing field, (10) market economy, and (11) safeguard individual property.&nbsp; They were asked to choose among &ldquo;strongly disagree&rdquo;, &ldquo;disagree&rdquo;, &ldquo;agree&rdquo;, and &ldquo;strongly agree&rdquo;.&nbsp; Over 90% of the 804 respondents strongly agreed or agreed that &nbsp;&lsquo;rule of law&rsquo; (92.7%) and &lsquo;just and corruption-free&rsquo; (92.3%) are the core values of Hong Kong.&nbsp; While 88.2% and 88.1% of respondents agreed that &lsquo;social stability&rsquo; and &lsquo;freedom&rsquo; are the core values respectively, the corresponding proportion of &lsquo;peace and benevolence&rsquo;, &lsquo;individual property&rsquo;, and &lsquo;level playing field&rsquo; were 87.4%, 86.5%, and 86.3%.&nbsp; 84.3% and 83.2% agreed that &lsquo;family&rsquo; and &lsquo;democracy&rsquo; are the core values of Hong Kong respectively.&nbsp; Over three-quarter also agreed that &lsquo;diversity and tolerance&rsquo; (79.8%) and &lsquo;market economy&rsquo; (76.5%) are the core values.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Respondents were also requested to choose the most important one among the 11 Hong Kong&rsquo;s core values.&nbsp; A larger proportion of them reported &lsquo;rule of law&rsquo; (22.9%) and &lsquo;freedom&rsquo; (20.8%).&nbsp; While 15.3% chose &lsquo;just and corruption-free&rsquo;, 11.1% opted for &lsquo;democracy&rsquo; and 8.3% considered &lsquo;social stability&rsquo;.&nbsp; The respective proportion of &lsquo;peace and benevolence&rsquo;, &lsquo;market economy&rsquo;, &lsquo;diversity and tolerance&rsquo;, &lsquo;individual property&rsquo;, &lsquo;level playing field&rsquo;, and &lsquo;family&rsquo; were 5.5%, 3.5%, 2.5%, 1.9%, 1.9%, and 1.6%.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>","show_as_achievement":false,"achievement_category":[],"show_as_clarification":false,"show_as_announcement":false,"photos":null,"attachments":null,"video_source":null,"video_file":null,"add_play_button":false,"video_caption":"","show_migration":false,"original_id":"1915","photos_original":null,"attachments_original":[{"link":"5451e0045e02c.pdf","text":"Attachment (Chinese version only)"}]},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/press\/48904","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/press"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/press"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/press\/48904\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=48904"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=48904"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
