A telephone survey was conducted from 21 to 23 October 2014 by Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to study the popularity of the HKSAR Government for the month of October 2014. 804 respondents aged 18 or above were successfully interviewed, with a response rate of 45.3%. The sampling error is + or – 3.46% at a confidence level of 95%. <\/p>
Major findings are summarized as follows:<\/strong> <\/p> Satisfaction <\/strong>towards<\/strong> the HKSAR Government.<\/strong> According to the survey, while 50.2% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction towards the HKSAR Government, 17.4% said they were satisfied. 31.6% of 804 respondents answered ‘in-between’. The corresponding figures in September 2014 were 44.5%, 15.1%, and 40.1%. Results of this month were significantly different from those of the past month statistically. <\/p> Rating of Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying.<\/strong> The current survey showed that the performance rating of Chief Executive (with a point scale ranging from 0 to 100 while 50 as a passing mark) stood at 38.6 in average and it was 41.4 last month. Statistically significant difference in the performance rating of Leung Chun-ying was found between this month and September 2014. <\/p> Ratings of Three Secretaries. <\/strong> The ratings of Chief Secretary for Administration (Carrie Lam), Financial Secretary (John Tsang), and Secretary for Justice (Rimsky Yuen) in October 2014 were 54.5, 56.7, and 48.9 respectively. The corresponding figures in September 2014 were 53.8, 55.1, and 48.3. No statistically significant differences were found between September and October 2014. <\/p> Overall Rating of the HKSAR Governing Team (including politically-appointed officials). <\/strong> The overall rating of the HKSAR governing team was 44.7 in both October 2014 and September 2014. Statistically, the rating of this month was not significantly different from that of September 2014. <\/p> Trust in the HKSAR and the Central Governments. <\/strong>In October 2014, 23.9% of respondents showed trust in the HKSAR government and 43.3% expressed distrust; 32.2% answered ‘in-between’. The results of September 2014 were 21.6%, 39.6%, and 37.4% respectively. Concerning the level of trust in the Central Government in October 2014, while 45.8% said they did not trust the Central Government, 23.0% answered the opposite; 28.5% said ‘in-between’. The corresponding figures in the previous month were 45.0%, 19.8%, and 32.2% respectively.
