In the lead-up to the musical extravaganza, Ma participated in the “CUHK and AIA Co-Present: A Dialogue on Music and Future Leadership between Yo-Yo Ma and CUHK Students” on the CUHK campus. He engaged in conversations with more than 200 university students, including several onstage interactions, followed by an impromptu performance, allowing them to witness the brilliance of a musical master first-hand.

Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, thanked Yo-Yo Ma for gracing us with his presence on campus at the diamond jubilee of CUHK for a valuable dialogue with students. With his own musical journey as inspiration, Ma encouraged young people to pursue truth, build mutual trust and serve others. Towards the end of the event, Professor Tuan highlighted the commonalities between science and music, comparing the stem cells he studies to musical notes that guide people to reflect on the past and envision the future. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to AIA for their support and sponsorship and conveyed his best wishes for Ma’s concert tomorrow.

AIA co-presented this special event as part of its Purpose to help people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. During the event, Cecilia Ma Zecha, AIA’s Director of Group Communications said, “At AIA, we are deeply committed to supporting education in communities to empower growth and help people realise their dreams. This is also why in 2020, AIA pledged US$100 million to support 100 undergraduates each year to attend universities in Hong Kong through our AIA Scholarships programme. This commitment represents our confidence in Hong Kong’s bright future and its future leaders.”

“CUHK 60th Anniversary: Yo-Yo Ma & HK Phil” will take place on the evening of 8 November at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.

Yo-Yo Ma participates in “CUHK and AIA Co-Present: A Dialogue on Music and Future Leadership between Yo-Yo Ma and CUHK Students” on the CUHK campus.
The people in the photo are: Yo-Yo Ma (4th right), CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S.
