Six Students Participated in the Youth Internship Programme at the Chinese Academy of Sciences

In the summer of 2018, six students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) were admitted to the six-week Youth Internship Programme at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), conducting science and technology research in such areas as artificial intelligence, intelligent robots, and autonomous vehicles.

The HKSAR Government has launched several signature internship programmes in 2018, including the Youth Internship Programme at CAS, focusing on science and technology research, with an intake quota of 22. As a pioneer in supporting nationwide innovation and technology development, CAS is committed to bringing scientists and engineers together from China and around the world to address a wide range of issues by using world-class scientific and management approaches. Six CUHK students were admitted to the Programme after rounds of interviews. They were assigned to three key research units under the Programme’s arrangements. During their six-week internship, student interns were given chances to explore different kinds of top research methods and technology, in such fields as artificial intelligence, computer science, and software development. As well as conducting research at CAS, they also attended various cultural exchange activities and joined interflow sessions with academicians and top researchers.

The six student interns, Fok Hei Leong Ellon (a Final Year student majoring in Mathematics), Lai Kin Ming (a Year Three student majoring in Mechanical and Automation Engineering), Li Ka Chiu David (a Final Year student majoring in Computer Science), Li Zhi Jun (a Year Two student majoring in Information Engineering), Leung King Chun Anson (a Year Three student majoring in Mechanical and Automation Engineering) and Nie Lun Yiu Flitter (a Year Three student majoring in Professional Accountancy and Computer Science) cherished the opportunities given and took inspiration from the guidance of and interaction with academicians.
