Mourning Prof. Ma Lin, the past Vice-Chancellor of CUHK

Prof. Ma Lin, the second Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), passed away on 16 October 2017 at the age of 93. CUHK is profoundly saddened by the death of Prof. Ma and has extended its deep condolences to his family.  Prof. Ma was a distinguished biochemist, First Chairman and Senior Advisor, Board of Trustees, Shaw College, Emeritus Professor (Biochemistry) and held an Honorary Fellowship and Honorary Doctorate of CUHK.  Prof. Ma joined CUHK in 1964 and was appointed as the second Vice-Chancellor of CUHK in 1978, retiring in 1987. 

Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK said “Prof. Ma was a far-sighted scholar and educator. He was passionate about education and he was always generous in giving guidance to students and other young scholars. After he joined CUHK, he contributed great leadership, moving CUHK towards becoming an integrated research university and setting a solid foundation for CUHK’s development. Prof. Ma’s passing is a great loss for both CUHK and the entire higher education sector in Hong Kong.” 

In conjunction with Prof. Ma’s family, details of the funeral are to be announced.
