Survey Reveals Excellent Employment Situations of 2008 CUHK GraduatesWith an Average of 2 Job Offers and About $18,000 in Salary

The employment rate and salary level of the 2008 graduates of The Chinese University of Hong Kong are highly satisfactory. Results of a graduate employment survey show that as at the end of 2008, around 96% of the 2,567 responding full-time graduates were either employed or pursuing further studies. The average monthly salary for those employed was HK$17,898. A medical graduate earned the top salary at HK$85,000 per month. On average, each graduate received around 2 job offers. Around 30% of the graduates obtained three or more offers. In terms of job satisfaction, about 95% were satisfied with their current jobs.

The survey was conducted by the Career Planning & Development Centre of the Office of Student Affairs, CUHK from November to December 2008 by means of questionnaires and telephone interviews. The findings covered full-time first-degree graduates of 2008 and MB ChB graduates of 2007.

The average monthly salary at HK$17,898 represents a 4.5% increase over the previous year. 92.4% of respondents were given their first job offers by the end of September 2008. The figure is similar to that of 2007 for the corresponding period.

Most graduates joined the commerce and industry sector (69.1%), followed by social and public organizations (14.5%), education (13.2%) and Government (3.2%).

The top seven career fields engaged by our graduates were: accounting/auditing (11.5%), banking/finance (9.7%), medical and health services (9.6%), computer engineering/information technology (9.3%), teaching (9.3%), administration/ management (7.4%) and sales/marketing (6.2%).
