CUHK to Hold the Symposium on Women Envisioning a New SocietyOpen to the Public

The Gender Research Centre, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Women’s Foundation will jointly organize the ‘Symposium on Women Envisioning a New Society’ next Saturday (5 October) on CUHK campus. Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government will be the Guest of Honour of the event. Guest speakers include Dr. Christine Loh Kung-wai, Under Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government; Prof. Wong Yu-cheung, Department of Social Work, CUHK; Mr. H.W. Chua, Business Director, Policy Research & Advocacy, Hong Kong Council of Social Service; Prof. Anita Chan, Department of Social Sciences, Hong Kong Institute of Education; and Prof. Ngo Hang-yue, Department of Management, CUHK. 

In the symposium, frontline social workers, government officials, academics and interested parties will be brought together to examine the hidden burdens for women, the current policy and programme gaps, and recommendations for practical collaborative initiatives to tackle the most pressing issues for Hong Kong society as a whole, focusing on the issues of aging population, poverty, education and the economy.
