To consolidate and leverage Hong Kong’s position as an international post-secondary education hub, led by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Heads of Universities Committee (HUCOM) today (23 February) hosted a special reception at the Hong Kong Palace Museum for distinguished guests from around the world. Supported by the Education Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the University Grants Committee (UGC), and co-hosted by the other UGC-funded universities, the event launched the “Study in Hong Kong” Week, further promoting the “Study in Hong Kong” brand and marking the start of the five-day Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026 Conference and Exhibition. APAIE 2026 is expected to attract over 3,000 international higher education professionals, making it the largest APAIE gathering in history and spearheading global educational exchange.

The launch ceremony brought together nearly 300 distinguished local and international guests from the education sector, including Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government; Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Convenor of the HUCOM and Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK; Mr Tim Lui, Chairman of the UGC; Professor James Tang, Secretary-General of the UGC; as well as representatives from Hong Kong institutions and leaders in international education.

Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government, remarked: “As a super-connector of global education networks, Hong Kong has been maintaining our academic environment highly internationalised and diversified. To further promote higher education in Hong Kong to the world, we are dedicating this week as the ‘Study in Hong Kong’ Week, during which we will share our success stories and connect more closely with partners worldwide. By choosing Hong Kong, overseas students are not just selecting a university; they are equipping themselves with the networks and insights necessary for a glorious career, ensuring they do not just witness what comes next, but actively live and shape that future.”

Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Convenor of the HUCOM and Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, said: “APAIE 2026 is a landmark event for Hong Kong’s higher education sector. The eight UGC-funded universities look forward to engaging with university presidents, institutional leaders and representatives from partner universities around the world. As the host city, we hope to provide our international guests with a productive conference and memorable experience, leaving a lasting impression of Hong Kong as an international metropolis where East meets West, and a leading international higher education hub.”

The “Study in Hong Kong” Week marks the return of the APAIE Conference and Exhibition to Hong Kong after 13 years. Supported by the HKSAR Government, the UGC, the Hong Kong Tourism Board and with the seven other UGC-funded universities as co-hosts, CUHK is serving as the lead local host of the APAIE 2026 Conference and Exhibition which will take place from 23 to 27 February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Under the theme of “Asia-Pacific Partnerships for the Global Good”, the conference is expected to attract university heads, policymakers, industry practitioners and global experts from over 70 countries and regions, to explore key issues and emerging trends in higher education.
