CUHK’s Master of Architecture Graduation Show opens on 6.18 featuring over 70 innovative architectural designs
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s School of Architecture hosts its 30th Master of Architecture Graduation Show today (18 June). Under the theme “Shift +”, this year’s event features more than 70 pioneering and impactful architectural solutions newly conceived by the graduates. Through exploring social resilience, ecological regeneration, and innovative spatial thinking, their projects outline a blueprint for the future of architectural design. The Show will be open from 18 to 24 June 2026, and members of public are welcome to attend.
Officiating guests at the opening ceremony include: Ms Winnie Ho, Secretary for Housing of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR); Ms Celia Lai, HK Chapter Chair of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA); Dr Ruffina Thilakaratne, RIBA International Councillor for Asia & Australasia; Professor Peter W. Ferretto, Director of the School of Architecture, CUHK; Professor Sunnie Lau, Vice President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and School of Architecture, CUHK; Mr Jack Chang, Chairman of China Resources Land Ltd
Ms Winnie Ho, Secretary for Housing of the HKSAR Government, emphasised in her remarks that the Northern Metropolis will bring the enormous development opportunities to Hong Kong. She encouraged graduates to seize these opportunities to contribute to the planning and infrastructure of the Northern Metropolis, helping to create more vibrant spaces for Hong Kong and provide a better quality of life for the community. She added, “We are eagerly looking forward to the new generation joining the architecture industry. We need fresh mindsets, professional skills, and vitality to make Hong Kong truly shine.”
Professor Peter W. Ferretto, Director of the School of Architecture, CUHK, said: “Shift is about change, a shift in thinking, in practice, in responsibility. In every graduate’s architectural proposal, I see an eagerness to put ideas into practice. You are no longer just playing the role of spectators. I hope that in your future careers, you will embody the Shift + spirit and use your architectural expertise to give back to society.”
Professor Francesco Rossini, Director of the Master of Architecture Programme at CUHK, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the 30th graduating class: “Congratulations to the graduates on completing such a significant milestone in your learning journey. I hope you will fearlessly embrace complex challenges, always maintain your curiosity and critical thinking, and press forward with the courage and passion to create meaningful change.”
The Show is categorised into four distinct studio clusters – Edges, Fragments, Frames and Fields – featuring over 70 design drawings and models. Graduates were organised into 14 thematic design studios, based on their research areas, to explore innovative architectural solutions. Diverse topics span the Northern Metropolis development, urban revitalisation, community innovation, the symbiosis of design and nature, urban resilience, Hong Kong’s multi-dimensional high density, and the exploration of human and AI collaboration. In addition, the Show showcases the architecture book Hong Kong Matters, published by one of the design studios, which documents Hong Kong’s unique architectural culture through text and photography.
