Chung Chi College (CCC) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) yesterday (7 September 2026) unveiled the art exhibition “Ink Echoes: A Shared Path with Kan Tai-keung and Students” as one of the artistic events for its milestone 75th Anniversary celebration. Running from today until 9 October 2026 at the Lobby Gallery of Chung Chi College Administration Building, the exhibition showcases the ink paintings by Dr Kan Tai-keung, a master of contemporary ink art and design. It also features the standout ink works of Dr Kan’s pupils, along with inspirational creative items Dr Kan uses in his teaching. The event embodies CUHK’s core mission to synthesise traditional heritage with modern innovation.

The opening ceremony was officiated yesterday by Professor Kwan Mei-po, Head of Chung Chi College; Professor Ko Wing-hung, Chairperson of the CCC 75th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee; Mrs Carol Tsang Chan Kwai-mui, Chairperson of the Heritage and Exhibition Committee of the CCC 75th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee; and the featured artist, Dr Kan Tai-keung.

Passing the torch: bridging generations through art

Dr Kan Tai-keung has been deeply dedicated to ink creation since the 1970s, seamlessly blending Eastern aesthetics with Western design principles. In recent years, he has channelled the core philosophy inherited from Lui Shou-kwan, pioneer of Hong Kong’s “New Ink Movement”—learning from tradition, nature and one’s inner self. Utilising this creed as a wellspring of inspiration, Dr Kan guides his granddaughter, Xenia Yuen, alongside other budding young artists, to discover everyday wonders and express themselves with bold, boundless imagination.

Under the theme “Ink Echoes: A Shared Path with Kan Tai-keung and Students”, this exhibition captures the spirit of mutual growth, shared learning and artistic mentorship, celebrating a dynamic bridge between generations in the evolving world of ink art. This theme resonates deeply with Chung Chi College’s educational mission and commitment to whole-person development, where holistic education and the value of learning through teacher-student companionship have long been cherished. The exhibition brings this enduring spirit to the fore while reflecting aspirations for the future, seeking to inspire creativity and cultivate humanistic values through the power of art.
