CUHK students sweep 19 awards at the Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions
Joint highest among local institutions
Students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) achieved outstanding results at the 12th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, winning a total of 19 awards — the joint-highest tally of any institution in the city. In the Innovation category, CUHK teams claimed one first prize, four second prizes, four third prizes and five merits. In the Entrepreneurship category, they added two second prizes, two third prizes and one merit.
Leading the slate is the Innovation first prize in Mathematics and Physics / Mechanics and Control Systems, awarded to Design and Mechanism Analysis of an Inertia-driven Amphibious Robot — a centimetre-scale, fully sealed legless robot that can jump, vibrate across sand and steer itself through water from a single compact platform. Its designers see immediate applications in rescue, inspection and monitoring in confined or hazardous environments.

The Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, organised annually by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, is the city’s principal pipeline to the national stage. Winning projects will represent the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the “Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest, the “Challenge Cup” China College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition and the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition. This year, the winning projects will also have the opportunity to represent Hong Kong and their respective institutions to compete at international competitions and exhibitions.
