CUHK receives over HK$52 million from RGC’s Collaborative Research Fund 2025/26 to advance interdisciplinary frontier research

Nine CUHK projects funded by the 2025/26 Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) from the Research Grants Council (RGC)

Nine research projects led by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have been awarded under the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2025/26 from the Research Grants Council (RGC) with a total project fund over $52 million, including three Collaborative Research Project Grants, three Collaborative Research Equipment Grants and three Young Collaborative Research Grants. Spanning frontier areas including astronomy, advanced materials, medical science, artificial intelligence and cultural data analytics, the projects are set to promote cross-institutional and interdisciplinary research collaboration and innovation.

CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har said: “I am delighted that nine CUHK-led projects have been awarded by the CRF this year. This recognition highlights the remarkable capabilities of our researchers in leading cross-institutional and interdisciplinary collaborations. Spanning from humanities to cutting-edge engineering, these projects reflect the diversity and dynamism of CUHK’s research ecosystem. I look forward to seeing the significant findings and breakthroughs that will arise from these research initiatives, which will propel Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology hub, while tackling regional and global challenges with innovative solutions.”

The Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) supports multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary projects in order to encourage more research groups to engage in creative, high-quality cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional projects.
