CUHK Faculty of Social Science and China Foreign Affairs University sign MOU to strengthen collaboration in diplomacy and international studies
The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) Faculty of Social Science and China Foreign Affairs University’s (CFAU) Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today (27 March), establishing a five-year partnership to advance teaching, talent cultivation, and research collaboration in diplomacy and international studies, and to foster long-term, sustainable academic exchange and development.
The MOU was signed by Professor Anthony Fung Ying-him, CUHK’s Dean of Social Science, and Professor Xiong Wei, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management at CFAU. The signing was witnessed by Professor Poon Wai-yin, CUHK Provost, and Ms Lu Ke, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR.
Under this MOU, CUHK and CFAU will establish a cooperation mechanism that includes faculty exchange, as well as summer training and exchange opportunities for students. These initiatives will enable students to gain deeper insights of national policymaking and diplomatic practices, strengthening their understanding of the nation’s role in international affairs, and enhance their capabilities to participate in practical diplomatic work – laying a solid foundation for handling related affairs on the global stage. In addition, the two institutions will collaborate on CUHK’s newly launched “Diplomacy and International Studies” interdisciplinary programme, and leverage this platform to explore and expand further opportunities in other areas of education and research.
Established in 1957, CFAU’s Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management is the first academic unit in the Chinese Mainland dedicated to diplomacy education and research. It has long achieved impressive results in diplomatic and foreign affairs talent cultivation, academic research and social service.
CUHK’s Faculty of Social Science is committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research. This collaboration builds on CUHK’s recently launched “Diplomacy and International Studies” interdisciplinary programme, jointly offered by the Faculty of Social Science and the Faculty of Law, which aims to nurture talent who are proficient in Chinese and Western cultures and equipped with the skills to excel in diplomacy, international organisations, and related fields.
