CUHK Business School students triumph at three international case competitions
Securing two first runners-up and one second runners-up
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School has recently achieved impressive results in three international business case competitions held in the US, Canada and Spain, with its student teams clinching two first runners-up positions and one second runners-up position. Competing against elite institutions, they applied rigorous business thinking to tackle complex, real-world challenges, pushing their boundaries and developing their leadership and collaboration skills.
Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of CUHK Business School, congratulated the winning teams, saying: “CUHK Business School students’ outstanding performance on the world stage reflects not only the talent of our students but also the School’s strategic mission to nurture global leaders equipped to meet challenges and seize opportunities. I take pride in their achievements and look forward to their continued pursuit of excellence.”
Third prize at McDonough Business Strategy Challenge (MBSC) 2026 – Washington, D.C.
Jessica Cheuk (IBBA, Year 3), Matthias Chong (IBCE, Year 3), Lauren Ho (IBBA, Year 3) and Shing-him Lee (QFRM, Year 3) finished second runner-up in the McDonough Business Strategy Challenge 2026, organised by Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The event brought together 60 elite students from 15 top international universities, challenging them with a real-world case involving built heritage advocacy group the DC Preservation League.
The teams battled it out over several intense rounds of competition and multiple presentations. The CUHK team’s winning strategies focused on expanding membership, exploring new revenue streams and reconstructing the board of trustees for greater effectiveness and impact.
Second prize at CaseIT MIS Case Competition (CaseIT) 2026 – Vancouver
Another team of four – Ryan Chi (GBS, Year 3), Panitsiree Choochua (IBBA, Year 3), Jasmine Wong (BBAJD, Year 2) and James Li (IFAA, Year 2) – took second prize at the CaseIT MIS Case Competition 2026. Hosted by the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University and involving 16 elite schools from around the world, CaseIT is a prestigious international competition that challenges participants to apply not only their business skills but also their expertise in Management Information Systems (MIS).
The week-long event featured two challenges: a six-hour case tackling the dilemma faced by human resources consultancy Pragilis in turning its Transformation Engine methodology into a digital platform, followed by a 24-hour case challenging the teams to enhance the financial information systems efficiency of healthcare charity the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
Second prize at IE Business Case Competition (IEBCC) 2026 – Madrid
Another quartet – Yan Hung Lui (GBS, Year 3), Jason Siu (QFRM, Year 3), Eunice Wai (IBCE, Year 4) and Yoyo Zhang (GBS, Year 3) – finished second among 12 top-tier international business schools at the IE Business Case Competition (IEBCC) 2026 in Madrid.
The event comprised two tasks: a five-hour case on the strategic challenges faced by drinks company Alma Carraovejas in scaling sustainably while balancing growth, profitability and brand prestige in the global wine industry, followed by a 12-hour case tasking students with formulating strategies for Amazon’s leadership to balance long-term growth with operational efficiency, customer obsession and sustainability amid mounting competitive pressures.
