Chung Chi College officially launches 75th anniversary celebrations
Over 2,000 people sing college anthem to set record

Eight officiating guests beat drums in unison and chanted “Chung Chi College, a family so dear, in CUHK’s embrace, we hold it near” together, symbolising the unity between Chung Chi and the rest of CUHK

A friendly tug-of-war saw Mr Tang Ping-keung and Mr Anthony Ngai King-kwok lead their teammates to compete for honours, showcasing the teamwork and perseverance of members of the Chung Chi community.

Mr Tang Ping-keung (1st right) led his team to victory three times in the friendly tug-of-war and was awarded the Best Team Leader.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests visited the booths and interacted with various CUHK departments, students, and alumni.

Mr Arie Lam, the Champion in the WDSF Solo Male Adult Open Latin at the WDSF Hualien Pacific Dancesport Open, delivered a stunning performance at the kick-off ceremony, leaving the entire audience in awe.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Chung Chi College (CCC) held the grand launch of its 75th anniversary celebrations today (January 17), with the Chung Chi College 75th Anniversary Carnival and Kick-off Ceremony marking the beginning of a series of celebratory events. Nearly  4,000 teachers, students, alumni and friends gathered to commemorate this significant milestone in the College’s history.

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of eight distinguished officiating guests: Mr Tang Ping-keung (CC/1987/Social Work), Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (HKSAR); Mr Chris Sun Yuk-han (CC/1994/IBBA), Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR; Professor John Chai Yat-chiu, Chairman of the CUHK Council; Dr Norman Chan Tak-lam (CC/1976/Sociology), Vice-Chairman of the CUHK Council and Chairman of the CCC Board of Trustees; Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK; Professor Ko Wing-hung (CC/1989/Biology), Associate Vice-President and University Dean of Students of CUHK, and Chairman of the CCC 75th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee; Professor Kwan Mei-po (CC/1985/Geography), Head of CCC; and Mr Anthony Ngai King-kwok (CC/2004/Quantitative Finance), Chairman of CCC Alumni Association and the Carnival Committee of the CCC 75th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee.

The theme of Chung Chi College’s 75th anniversary is “Chung Chi Spirit. Joyful Journey. Celebrating 75 Years”. Dr Norman Chan Tak-lam noted that this carnival serves as the prelude to the anniversary celebrations. Over the coming year, the College will host a series of events, including thematic talks, the CC75 Star talent contest, the CC75 Full Cup sports competition, a cruise tour and an anniversary gala. They will provide opportunities for teachers, students and alumni to explore the world of Chung Chi, relive the joy of their campus life and celebrate the College’s 75-year legacy.

During the ceremony, the officiating guests beat drums in unison and chanted “Chung Chi College, a family so dear, in CUHK’s embrace, we hold it near” together, symbolising the unity between Chung Chi and the rest of CUHK, and expressing their wish for the College to carry forward its legacy and achieve new glory. Next, over 2,000 attendees sang the Chung Chi College anthem together, setting a record for the largest group performance of the song. A subsequent friendly tug-of-war saw Mr Tang and Mr Ngai lead their teammates to compete for honours, showcasing the teamwork and perseverance of members of the Chung Chi community.

The carnival featured a rich, diverse array of fun activities, with over 80 events and booths, including fun games, sports experiences, creative markets run by teachers, students and alumni, bouncy castles, a themed photo zone, food stalls, departmental interactive zones and a pet-friendly area. There were some spectacular stage performances, with Chung Chi and other CUHK students showcasing their cheerleading, Latin dance, flamenco, singing and freestyle jump rope skills.
