Chung Chi College 75th anniversary “Excellence Talk Series” officially launched
Initiative gathers globally renowned leaders to explore key issues of our time
To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Chung Chi College (CCC) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has proudly launched its signature event, the “Excellence Talk Series”. The series aims to gather top global leaders and scholars for in-depth dialogue on major contemporary issues, inspiring reflection, fostering meaningful exchange and injecting forward-looking wisdom into society. The inaugural talk was held today (7 February), attracting enthusiastic participation, with more than 600 faculty members, students, alumni and members of the public in attendance, who gave it an overwhelmingly positive response.
Before the talk, there was a launch ceremony for the series. The officiating guests included Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President; Professor Kwan Mei-po, Head of CCC; Professor Ko Wing-hung, Chairman of the CCC 75th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee; and Mr Eric Chan Cho-biu, Chairman of the Excellence Talk Series Committee of the CCC 75th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee.
The first talk, on Health Insights, featured two internationally renowned speakers: Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, who is also Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine and Professor of Chemical Pathology at CUHK, and Professor Vincent Mok Chung-tong, Master of CUHK’s S.H. Ho College, Mok Hing Yiu Professor of Medicine in the Division of Neurology within its Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, and Co-Director of the Charles Kao CUHK BEAT AD Service. Professor Lo delivered the talk “Building New Defenses Against Cancer”, presenting his groundbreaking research achievements in early cancer detection and diagnosis, which have opened up an entirely new frontier for prevention and treatment of the disease. Professor Mok presented on “Strategies for Preventing Dementia”, sharing the latest developments in dementia research and effective prevention strategies, which help members of the public protect brain health and cognitive function from an early stage. Both lectures were delivered in a clear, accessible tone, combining scientific depth with practical, everyday relevance.
The “Excellence Talk Series” embodies CCC’s commitment to whole-person education. The College is not only committed to promoting cutting-edge knowledge and technologies but also emphasises humanistic care, encouraging the public to pay attention to physical and mental well-being, as well as spiritual nourishment. Over the coming year, the College will continue to invite distinguished speakers from various fields to deliver talks under themes such as “Prosperous Ageing”, “Inspiring Minds” and “Future Innovation”, contributing forward-looking perspectives and intellectual inspiration to society.
