The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has performed impressively in the Research Grants Council’s (RGC) 2026/27 General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS), securing support for 272 projects with total funding of approximately HK$222.6 million.

In the RGC’s Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS) 2026/27, a CUHK project led by Professor Catherine So Wing-chee of the Department of Educational Psychology, titled “Comparative Analysis of Different Parent Education and Training (PET) Programs for Hong Kong Parents of Autistic Children”, received the highest funding of HK$1 million. Notably, it was the only one among the 10 funded projects this year to reach the HK$1 million mark.

CUHK’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har said: “Amid an increasingly competitive funding environment, CUHK’s strong performance in this year’s RGC funding exercise reflects the dedication and high calibre of our research community. We are encouraged by the achievements of both established and early-career scholars. The University will continue to enhance its support for researchers to further strengthen our competitiveness and research impact.”

About the General Research Fund (GRF) and the Early Career Scheme (ECS)

The General Research Fund aims to supplement universities’ research support to researchers who have achieved or have the potential to achieve excellence. The Early Career Scheme, introduced in 2012/13, is intended to nurture junior academics and to prepare them for a career in education and research.

About the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS)

Introduced in 2012/13, the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS) aims to grant extended time off and supporting funds to outstanding investigators in the disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences Panel to enable them to focus on research and writing.
