Remarks:

CUHK is committed to sustainable development and has set goals to reduce energy use (per capita) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (per capita) on campus by 25% and 20% respectively by 2025, and also set a number of medium-term sustainability targets. We are aware that apart from good management and operation practices, the University community’s awareness and support for sustainable behaviour play a crucial role in achieving these targets.

Therefore, in August 2013, the University held a competition to design a ‘Column of Sustainability’ for Yasumoto International Academic Park (YIA), inviting students and staff to design a creative piece of eco-art that would enable the University community to learn about the sustainability targets and the University’s progress towards them, and thereby further encourage cultural and behaviour changes on campus.

The competition had a student section and a staff section. Entries were assessed by a panel chaired by Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor, and comprising directors of the School of Architecture and related offices as well as Mr. Andrew Lee, the lead architect of Yasumoto International Academic Park (YIA). We are pleased to have received many excellent designs from our staff and students and would like to showcase the creative entries on this occasion.
