Synopsis of Lecture:

Many urban development projects in post-handover Hong Kong have caused heated debates and societal wide controversies. These include Harbour reclamation, urban renewal, heritage conservation, walled buildings and the construction of inter-city high speed rail, etc. What should be the role of community voice and “people power” in urban development? The speaker will try to search for an answer through urban studies theories and investigation of various controversial post-handover urban development stories.
