Synopsis of Lecture:

Remote and Mobile Sensing Technologies for Smart Cities Research (presented by Prof. KWAN Mei Po)
The rapid development and widespread use of advanced remote sensing and mobile sensing technologies in recent years have greatly facilitated the acquisition of enormous amounts of high-resolution space-time data. In this presentation, Prof. Kwan will discuss how to integrate these multi-source geospatial big data acquired by earth observation technologies and mobile sensing technologies to provide more accurate analysis and to develop solutions and policies for smart cities research.

Advances in Remote Sensing of Tropical/subtropical Regions (presented by Prof. HUANG Bo)
Optical remote sensing in tropical/subtropical regions faces critical challenges, such as cloud cover and rains, which have limited the acquisition of satellite imagery. To address this limitation, Prof. Huang and his team devised several strategies, including satellite image fusion, cloud removal, mobile sensing, and spatiotemporal big data analytics. In this presentation, Prof. Huang will describe these strategies and methods and highlight the advances they have made so far.

Radar Remote Sensing of Land Deformation and Early Warning of Geo-hazards for Sustainable Development (presented by Prof. MA Peifeng)
Land deformation under the combined effects of natural and anthropogenic activities is threatening infrastructural health and public safety. In this talk, Prof. Ma will discuss their work on the development of innovative radar remote sensing methods with deep learning analytics to monitor large-scale land deformation for early warning. Prof. Ma will highlight how it strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and CUHK’s Strategic Plan 2021–2025.
