Tenth Literary CUHK Essay Competition awards ceremony
The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Department of Chinese Language and Literature recently held the Tenth Literary CUHK Essay Competition awards ceremony. 24 winners were selected from nearly 400 submissions after six months of review. Participants were encouraged to capture campus beauty and convey personal reflections. The ceremony featured various distinguished guests and highlighted essays covering themes like personal growth through tea ceremonies and challenges faced by cross-border students.
During the event, Professor Poon Ming Kay, Chairman of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, highlighted the competition’s goal of inspiring students’ passion for Chinese writing, noting the campus as a wellspring of creativity. The final adjudicators Professor Jiang Tao, Dr. Lau Wai Shing and Miss Wong Sau Lin also shared their insights about the winning entries, encouraging a kind-hearted observation of life while stressing the importance of precision and fluency in writing to connect with readers. The ceremony also included a recitation section, offering attendees a different perspective on the beauty of literature.
