敬悼孔祥復教授(English version only)

We are in great sadness over the passing of Professor Kung Hsiang-fu (孔祥復教授), Academician, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Emeritus Professor of Virology, CUHK on 17 June 2019.

Professor Kung was born in 1942 in Chongqing, China. He obtained his Ph.D. in Vanderbilt University in 1969. Professor Kung was an accomplished scientist in molecular genetics, molecular oncology and virology. He received many awards and made enormous contributions to medical research in basic science as well as applied research. During 1986 -1998, he was the Chief of the Laboratory of Biochemical Physiology, National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Health (NIH) in the United States, and was awarded the NIH Merit Award in 1998. In 1999, Professor Kung was elected as a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prior to joining CUHK, he had served as the Chair Professor of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the University of Hong Kong. He was also Professor of Virology of the Centre of Emerging Infectious Diseases under Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences and the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK. Professor Kung had published over 500 scientific articles and 15 book chapters, and was the holder of 19 international patents.
