The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) announces that all offices on campus will remain closed on 21 and 22 November 2019. Individual Departments and Units may arrange for colleagues to resume duties to undertake emergency or necessary work. On a voluntary basis, other colleagues may also return to the office for work and to evaluate the affected situation.

After preliminary observation and assessment, the campus is generally safe and in order. To further ensure the safety of the campus environment, the University has entrusted an independent accredited laboratory to conduct samplings and chemical examination on air, water and environmental surfaces in campus. The frontline departments are fully engaged in the restoration works. Colleagues who return to work in the office tomorrow or this Friday should note that the shuttle bus and paid shuttle light bus services are suspended, and some carparks are closed due to severe damage. Only a few on-campus canteens will resume operation, while the supermarket will be closed until further notice.

It is expected that CUHK will be able to resume normal operation next Monday (25 November). The University will make an announcement on work arrangements this Friday. For staff working outside the Shatin campus, please contact the respective Faculty/Department for further details. All off-campus units of the Faculty of Medicine will operate as usual.
