Synopsis of Lecture:

Public health is the science and art of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research of disease and injury prevention. It acts at local, national and global levels, and receives increasing attention in our society in recent decades. The Hong Kong Government has put public health as one of the top priority issues in resource allocation and policy-making. This seminar aims to explore the most important challenges of public health we currently face. It will highlight the most significant influence of chronic diseases as top ten health killers in Hong Kong, and discuss how public health workers can contribute to combat the various health issues which pose a threat to population health via collaborative work and concerted efforts.
