Synopsis of Lecture:

To the general public, Math has been one of the most inscrutable items among scientific disciplines. Not only is the language of Math difficult for a lay person to penetrate, it is also often not obvious why it is relevant to everyday life. In fact, Math is both ubiquitous and central to many technologies that we rely on everyday. In this talk, intended for general audience, Professor Chan will give some examples to illustrate this unexpected role of Math from a personal perspective.
