Biography of Speaker:

Professor Andrew Chi-fai Chan is the Director of EMBA Program in CUHK.  On 1 July 2010, Professor Chan took up the headship of Shaw College, CUHK.

Professor Chan excels in teaching and was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award in 2001 and 2009.

Professor Chan has been active in participating in public service.  From 1999 to 2005, he was Chairman of the Hong Kong Consumer Council while 2004 to 2010, he was Chairman of the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board; and from 2005 to 2012 he was a Member of the Electoral Affairs Commission.  Currently, he is Chairman of Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong and Process Review Committee of Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and Committee Member of Clearing and Settlement Systems Appeals Tribunal of Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Member of the Chinese Medicine Development Committee.  In recognition of his distinguished public and community service, he was appointed as a Justice of the Peace in 2005 by the Hong Kong SAR Government and was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2007.

Synopsis of Lecture:

A brand is not just about your logo or a name; it represents your complete business identity.  The right branding strategies could bring real success for your business as it would help identify the most valuable tools to create a powerful business brand.  What convinces people to invest in you or your products or services is how well they know, like, and trust you.  In general terms, a strong brand is one that people recognize and believe in your ability to deliver your promise.

However, developing strategies for building successful brand image can be one of the most difficult task in your strategic endeavour. On the one hand, it is often this particular element that causes most businesses the biggest challenge, but, on the other hand, this is a vital factor that creates the corporate identity.

Upon completion of this seminar delivered by Prof. Chan Chi Fai, participants are expected to be able:

  • to understand the important concepts/theories in branding,
  • to identify key strategic issues for building successful brand image, and
  • to formulate relevant branding strategies to meet present and future challenges.
