Synopsis of Lecture:

Even though Hong Kong is basically a Chinese society, the government believes that it is necessary to launch national education to nurture people’s value and attitude towards our own country. This indicates that the idea of nation is not something take-it-for-granted but needs to be constructed through some social and political processes. This lecture aims to explain how nation as an “imagined community” is constructed and why an anti-national education movement has emerged in Hong Kong.
