Event Details:

The late Professor Sir Charles K. Kao (1933-2018) was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication. The provisioning of content-rich internet and mobile networks today would not be possible without the optical fibre laid in the backhaul of mobile networks and all the way to the submarine cables for intercontinental traffic.

To mark the 10-year anniversary of the Nobel prize awarded to Sir Charles, the Faculty of Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) jointly organize a symposium to provide forward-looking perspectives on the forefront of research and the emerging applications in optical fibre and silicon photonics.
