Event Details:

The first Russian Culture Festival organised by the Office of Student Affairs aims to introduce not only the rich culture that is home to Russia, but also that has made a mark on countries such as the former Soviet Union members Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, as well as eastern European countries like Bulgaria, Poland, etc. With a broader spectrum of countries involved, the Festival expects to present the diversity and dynamics of Russian culture in a wider variety of aspects.

✤ Opening talk – Ukrainian Blood, Hong Kong Heart
Miss Victoria Wang (Viktoriia Tkachuk; 王詠嘉), a popular host for ViuTV, was born in Ukraine and grew up in Hong Kong. Ethnically Ukrainian, but Victoria’s inner self seems like any ordinary local girl. In this talk, Victoria will talk about her cultural journey of juggling Hong Kong and Ukrainian cultures and exploring other cultures. She will also share with the audience some interesting cultural bits about Ukraine.

✤ Movie Screening – The Road to Mother
The movie traces the most historical moments of Kazakhstan, a former Soviet Union country, from the 1930s to the present time by depicting a Kazakh family’s separation and determination to remain united.

✤ Sharing Session – Russian Culture in Europe and Asia 
With its sphere of influence across Europe and Asia, Russia played a substantial role in the contemporary history of some countries in these two continents. The CUHK students from relevant countries including Bulgaria, Poland, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will share with the audience the influence on their homelands brought by Russian culture and the cultural identity of different generations.

If you are eager to know the answers, join us in this journey, guided by a guest speaker from Central Asia Centre (HK), to the heart of Eurasia to find out more about Central Asia’s Russian heritages!

✤ Talk – White Russian Émigrés in Hong Kong & Mainland China
Exiled from Imperial Russia during turbulence a century ago, the white Russian émigrés, who opposed the regime, arrived in various areas around the world. Many of them reached China, whose footsteps can be traced in cities such as Harbin, Shanghai and even Hong Kong. Our guest speaker and a historian, Ms. Kira Pozdnyaeva, will tell you more how this community is related to our society.
