Biography of Speaker:

Professor Erkko Autio, Chair Professor in Technology Venturing and Entrepreneurship, Imperial College Business School, United Kingdom, will visit United College from 7 to 13 October 2017 the College’s Distinguished Visiting Scholar in 2017-2018.

Professor Autio was born in Rovaniemi, Finland. He received the Master of Science degree and Ph.D. degree in industrial management in 1990 and 1995 respectively from Helsinki University of Technology. His research interests are in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship policy (notably, entrepreneurial ecosystems and national systems of entrepreneurship), innovation ecosystems, digitalisation, business model innovation and entrepreneurial internationalisation. Professor Autio is currently exploring the transformative impact of digitalisation on entrepreneurial and innovative activity in the economy and elaborating associated implications for policy. His work on measuring country-level entrepreneurial activity through the lens of the Global Entrepreneurship Index has led him to develop a number of international research collaborations. His research has been published widely in top research journals as well as popular press, and his work has generated over 23,000 citations. He was recently recognised as one of the top-50 management scholars globally in terms of research impact.
