Dr. Yuichi Sugiyama

Biography of Speaker:

Dr. Sugiyama received a Ph.D. from University of Tokyo, School of Pharmacy in 1978. Upon retiring from the University of Tokyo in 2012, he continued his research as head of the Sugiyama Laboratory at the RIKEN Innovation Center. Dr. Sugiyama is acknowledged as a world-leader in the fields of physiologically based pharmacokinetics and membrane transporters. His work is internationally recognized by many awards, notably the AAPS Distinguished Pharmaceutical Scientist Award in 2003, B.B.Brodie Award from ASPET in 2012, and R.T. Williams Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award (ISSX) in 2013. Dr. Sugiyama was listed as the #1 scientist in the field of “Pharmacology and Toxicology” by ISI in 2007 for the number of citations of the publications he received in the preceding 10 years. He served as the president of both “International society for the study of xenobiotics (ISSX)” and “Japanese Society for Xenobiotic Metabolism and Disposition (JSSX)” during 2006-2007.
