Synopsis of Lecture:

The Head of the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao, Carmen CANO, will talk about the European Union and its increasing role as a global actor. The EU operates delegations across the world with a network of 139 EU delegations/embassies. Through its foreign policy, the EU contributes to reduce poverty in the world, ensure sustainable economic development, and promotes democracy, the rule of law, good governance and the respect of human rights. Following Brexit, the migration crisis and changes in leadership in the USA, the European Union is confronted with new challenges and opportunities. It is increasingly important to understand the decision-making procedures of the European Union and how they affect the world. Ambassador CANO will address these and other issues, with a focus on the EU’s relations with Hong Kong and Asia.
