PUK Wing Kin gained his PhD degree from the Institute of Chinese Studies of the University of Oxford. He specializes in socio-economic history of late imperial China. His PhD thesis studies the history of the Ming salt certificate within the context of public finance. He is currently teaching in the Department of History, Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has published some books and academic papers, such as The Rise and Fall of a Public Debt Market in 16th-Century China: the Story of the Ming Salt Certificate (Monies, Markets, and Finance in East Asia, 1600-1900 series, Vol. 8, Leiden: Brill, 2016).
