Using Fruit Flies for Biomedical Research (Chinese version)

Prof. Edwin Chan in CUHK and his team have been conducting research with the fruit flies, Drosophila on the development of medicines, the inhibitory polypeptide P3, for spinocerebellar atrophy, in the hope of relieving the physical pain of patients with such disease. However, people may doubt that fruit flies are very much different from humans. They are insects while we are mammals. Why would Prof. Chan's research team use fruit flies to test the medicines?
